Madden NFL Football 3DS Preview

Madden NFL Footbal 3ds Release Date: March 22, 2011 Just a few years ago, people had a couple of NFL games to choose from. Madden changed the game and crushed the rest of the competition, and now they have a monopoly on any NFL game made. Sure, there may be a couple of other football titles that have been released – they haven’t seen anywhere near the sales of Madden. Just a few years ago, people had a couple of NFL games to choose from. Madden changed the game and crushed the rest of the competition, and now they have a monopoly on any NFL game made. Sure, there may be a couple of other football titles that have been released – they haven’t seen anywhere near the sales of Madden. As such, one can reasonably expect for all of the games to be pretty substantial, regardless of the system, and that’s pretty much the truth. Unfortunately, none of the games have real success on a handheld, but Madden NFL Football 3DS is shaping to change all of that. - Click here to pre-order on Amazon

Get on the Gridiron

Any Madden fan will tell you that the flow of the game is the most important thing, and although the 3DS is a good system, one wouldn’t expect for the flow of the game to be right. With the ability to play either 5-on-5 or 11-on-11; it’s nice to know that they’ve thought about the game running smoothly. The play calling works pretty well, too. The GameFlow Mode allows for the player to use plays that are best for the situation, the Arcade Mode allows for the play caller to come up with plays on-the-fly, and the Genuine Mode allows you to have access to the full playbook.

One neat play calling feature that really peaked our interest is the Call Your Shots play call. Right before the play you can use the circle pad to choose a player and draw a new route for him to run. This adds some really awesome audible dynamics.

To work with the smaller screen size and keeping with the Nintendo theme the 3ds version has been rendered with a more cartoon look much like its Wii cousins. Now this is not the only portable Madden out there at the moment but when reviewers compared this game to the iphone version the frame rate seemed much smoother. This to me would be expected as the Nintendo 3ds was built with some power that should be able to out perform a smart phone.

Game Modes

The Game modes are actually a little enticing, too. As earlier stated, the game allows for 5-on-5 action. But not only does it stop there – you actually have the ability to turn off all of the penalties and everything else. In that respect, it’s just like backyard football. But if you’re looking for something a bit more structured, there’s always the Road to the Superbowl mode, allowing you to match your wits and skill against some of the toughest teams in the AFC or NFC. In short, Madden for the 3DS is all you’d want, along with some of the things that you don’t actually get on the console versions of the game.
