Pilot Wings Resort 3d builds upon the classic Nintendo franchise dating all the way back to the Super NES days. In between trying to beat the craziness of Super Mario 3 there those who took a break to enjoy the joys of a little game called Pilot Wings. Recent adaptations like Wii Sports Resort have been very popular and now the franchise is one of the most well received Nintendo 3DS launch titles. Pilot Wings takes us back to the fun and beauty of Wuhu Islands Sports Resort for a full featured 3D flying experience. – Click here to buy on Amazon
The game takes its classic theme of fun random flying crafts like jet packs, hang gliders and more to give you’re a fun and challenging airborne platform experience. The experience is varied throughout the game as each of these unique flying crafts all have different controls and flight capabilities. This gives the the game a fresh feel all the way through.
Gameplay Modes
You can play in two different modes mission and free flight. In mission mode you progress through 40 different zones using the variety of crafts. If you just fancy yourself a free flight explorer you can search the Island of Wuhu for all sorts of collections and unlock various figurines to store on your 3DS.
The mission mode works on a grading scale which seems to be way to encourage re-playability which is nice. I for one like games that encourage ‘High Score Obsession’. Lots of the previews I read say the levels get pretty intense as you move along to a point where the obstacles are almost impossible.
Pilotwings Resort Controls
As we said above the controls for every craft are different; with the glider you catch the ‘wind beneath your wings’ and sail smoothly over the resort of Wuhu Island while with the Jetpack you must balance your energy bursts to navigate the obstacles in the sky. Other reviewers have said the 3DS’s analogue pad makes controlling these skyway vessels feel natural and are pretty easy to get the hang of.

3d Graphics
Using the consoles 3d slider the depth of view you get while cruising through the landscape is impressive but the full 3d effect can be a little distracting. We have also seen many people claiming the Pilot Wings release is possibly the best looking 3DS launch title of the 18 releases. Yet others have said although they are nice the small 3DS screen does not allow you to immerse yourself in the environment, that may be a shortcoming of the console as a whole than one of this particular game.
All in all Pilotwings Resort 3D is one of those fun and addicting games that may not seem like it packs a hardcore gamers punch but will challenge you as you progress. I can see this being like many of the Nintendos Wii Sports franchise games and taking over much of my 3DS experience.
